We all know a good night’s rest is one of the most important ingredients for a successful day. But many of us struggle with catching the Z’s we need to feel rested in the morning. Recent studies show that 1 in 10 Americans report trouble sleeping. Being unable to get our share of peaceful sleep can affect not only our mood, but also our productivity in the workplace. Don’t let yourself be one of those people. Avoiding these ten things during bedtime will help you shut those eyes and sleep serenely through the night like you deserve to.
Leaving the lights on
When we were kids, we couldn’t sleep without our favorite galaxy themed night-light. Nowadays, we have salt lamps, fairy lights, and burning aromatherapy candles as the epitome of relaxation. Unfortunately, leaving these light sources on while falling asleep might be the reason you’re not getting enough. The National Sleep Foundation has recently discovered that sleeping with the lights on prevents you from getting a full night of rest. The reason is because our eyelids are slightly translucent, causing our eyes to take in every bit of light that shines through them as we sleep. This sends signals to your brain that it’s light out, making it think that it shouldn’t let you fall into your complete nighttime sleep cycle.
